Do not assume that you should follow the same set of instructions on all the appliances.

From the Start menu, run the following command to open the registry editor: regedit Caution! Refer to the Disclaimer at the end of this article before using Registry Editor. If you have a Volume License Agreement with Microsoft, then you can leverage the same.

The quickest solution is to contact the local Microsoft representatives and let them know that you require a "field upgrade". Do not attempt the further steps of the procedure until you receive the COA because proceeding with the migration process without a COA might render the appliance inoperable. Additionally, do not attempt to modify the date in the SystemBiosDate field because this is a read-only field. Complete the following sub-procedure on the appliance to download the migration utility from the Citrix web site: Log on to www.

Click the Downloads link. Review the contents of the page and click Get Software. Save the software on the appliance. Ensure that the appliance has 10 gigabytes of free disk space. Upgrading the Operating System of the Appliance to Windows Server Before you upgrade the operating system of the appliance to Windows Server , you must download the appropriate migration utility.

Additionally, ensure that the COA sticker you have received matches the utility used. An R1 sticker does not work if you migrate using an R2 utility.

To download the migration utility for Windows Server R1, complete the following procedure: Log on to the MyCitrix portal. Navigate to the Download section. From the Product List, select Branch Repeater. The Component section contains the link for the migration to Windows Server Click Get Software link to download the appropriate utility. Notes: You might run into limitations on the Internet Explorer browser as specified in Microsoft support article - You cannot download files that are 2 GB or larger.

In such cases, use another web browser, if required. As a result, all user data, user installed applications and services, network configuration, Windows configuration, and ISA Server , if configured, are lost. However, most of the acceleration configurations are retained.

Citrix recommends that you make a backup of all data and configuration at a safe location, other than the hard drive of the appliance, before you proceed with the migration process. You must run the update process locally and not from a remote desktop or other remote access utilities. Additionally, if the appliance is connected to the KVM switch, you must not touch the switch during the upgrade process.

Click OK. Another dialog box is displayed after the sanity check of the appliance, as shown in the following screen shot: Review the warnings carefully and select each option available in the dialog box. Note: The migration process cannot continue until you have selected the option for all entries in the preceding dialog boxes. The migration process continues automatically and does not need any interventions from you.

The process completes the following tasks: Restarts the appliance four times. Licenses are migrated. To manually activate the Windows Server operating system with an alternate product key, complete the following procedure: Ensure that the appliance is connected to the network and access the Microsoft web site though the Internet. Open the properties of the appliance from the Start menu by right-clicking Computer, as shown in the following screen shot: In the System window, scroll to the end of the window to display the Windows activation section, as shown in the following screen shot: Click the Change product key link to display the Windows Activation wizard, as shown in the following screen shot: In the Product Key field, type the character product key available on the left side of the COA sticker you received from Citrix.

Click Next. The computer attempts to activate the operating system over the Internet and a progress page followed by the "Activation was successful" message on the Windows Activation page of the wizard is displayed, as shown in the following screen shot: If the activation of the operating system is successful, then continue with Step If the activation is not connected to the Internet, then the Activate Windows now page of the wizard is displayed, as shown in the following screen shot: Ensure that the appliance is connected to the Internet and can access the Microsoft web site.

Click the Activate Windows online now link. Click Close. Re-Licensing the Appliance After migrating the operating system of the appliance, you might observe that the appliance displays an error message for the user interface, which lists an ephemeral Ethernet port Media Access Control MAC address along with the permanent addresses. These ephemeral addresses are not retained across the operating system migrations.

Therefore, a license based on this address becomes invalid after the migration process. To resolve this issue, you must re-license the appliance. To re-license the appliance, complete the following procedure: Open the management interface of the appliance. If there is an Yellow warning box reporting an invalid or expired license, then you need to exchange the license.

To exchange the license, refer to the section 3. Disclaimer Caution! Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that might require you to reinstall your operating system. Citrix cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor can be solved.

Use Registry Editor at your own risk. Be sure to back up the registry before you edit it. Was this page helpful? Thank you! Sorry to hear that. Please provide article feedback.
